Adding Accounts in Ledger Live
Ledger Live enables users to manage multiple cryptocurrencies from a single interface. Adding accounts correctly ensures secure tracking, transaction confirmation, and portfolio overview.
Step 1 — Connect Your Ledger Device
Connect your Ledger Nano X, Nano S, or Nano S Plus to your computer or mobile device. Unlock the device by entering your PIN. Ledger Live will detect the device and prompt you to proceed.
Step 2 — Launch Ledger Live and Navigate to Accounts
Open Ledger Live and go to the “Accounts” tab in the sidebar. Click “Add Account” to start the process. Ensure you have the latest Ledger Live version installed.
Step 3 — Choose the Cryptocurrency
Select the cryptocurrency for the account you want to add. Ledger Live supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, and many altcoins. Each selection may require installing the corresponding app on your Ledger device if it’s not already installed.
Step 4 — Install the App on Device (if needed)
If the cryptocurrency app is not installed, Ledger Live will guide you to the “Manager” section to install it. Confirm installation on your device. This allows secure signing of transactions.
Step 5 — Synchronize Ledger Live
Once the app is installed, Ledger Live reads the public keys from your device. This synchronizes the account, displaying balances and transaction history. Ledger Live does not expose your private keys.
Step 6 — Name Your Account
Optionally, assign a custom name to your account for easy identification. This is particularly useful if you manage multiple accounts or wallets for different purposes.
Step 7 — Verify Account Addresses
Always verify the account address displayed on Ledger Live matches the one on your device screen before receiving funds. This prevents malware from intercepting transactions or changing addresses.
Step 8 — Repeat for Additional Accounts
To manage multiple cryptocurrencies, repeat the process for each coin or token. Ledger Live supports multiple accounts for the same cryptocurrency as well.
